A little more than 50 years ago the first personal computers were introduced. Development of PCs followed two parallel paths. The first course describes the earliest path began with foundational computer inventions in the 1970s at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), which was funded by Xerox. The second course in the series will describe the second path that started with the Apple II and then the IBM PC, and its clones. The final course will describe how the two paths converged in 1981 after Steve Jobs (Apple) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) saw the Xerox Star. .
