Not behind, but next to one of the most famous names in aviation, was the award winning adventurer and author Anne Morrow Lindbergh. As the first woman to receive a glider pilot license, she had a high profile and complicated marriage of 45 years to the Spirit of Saint Louis pilot. She rescued flood victims in China, endured the kidnapping and murder of their firstborn child, Charles Jr., and is a subject of a forthcoming book, Solo and Together. The baby Lindbergh kidnapping was the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. As his co-pilot, navigator and radio operator she too was a trailblazer in aviation history. She was also the author of poems, essays, letters, diaries, novels and a non-fiction work on the Apollo 8 mission.
