The nation of India alone is now the most populous country on Earth. If we include its neighbors that were also part of the former British colony of India, the total population is approaching 2 billion on the sub-continent. That is a sizable chunk of humanity. The long and varied history of this region is our topic in this course, from the earliest human habitation to the arrival of Islam as a significant force. Our primary source will be lectures from The Great Courses lecture series, A History of India, by Prof. Michael H. Fisher Ph.D. Additional material from the internet will expand our learnings, and some lively discussion will no doubt be had. Part 1 of a 2 course series.
