Most of us are strangers to poetry. But what makes a poet? This course will give you an introduction into the extraordinary life of Russian-American poet Joseph Brodsky, who was exiled from his country never to return. He came to the United States and, ultimately, won the Nobel Prize for Literature and was appointed this country’s 1991 Poet Laureate. His short, prolific life included a visit to Ocala in 1995, a guest of, then, Central Florida Community College. While we will enjoy one of his poems, the thrust of this course is the life he lived and the legacy he left.
