So many people, when finding out I teach biology, tell me how much, as a student, they hated biology. Are you one of those people? Or are you a closet nerd who wants to know more about biology? Either way, this is the course for you! In this course you will explore three different case studies that make biology relevant and relatable to people’s real lives. With a combination of narrative discussions, hands-on examples, and calculators (yes, I said calculators!), you will get to learn about three different topics in biology. Case 1 explores the evolution of animal body shapes and predators square off with their prey. Case 2 is an ecological murder mystery! Learn about how food webs affect humans while trying to explain the deaths of 40,000 otters in Alaska. Case 3 explores the process of gene expression by learning about two different families with genetic disorders affecting speech and hearing. This course will help make science make sense and show you that gosh darn it, biology is fun!
