Students in this course will read and discuss various works of Edgar Allen Poe, one of the greatest American writers. Originator of the modern, detective story, inspirer of the science fiction genre, master of horror, the ~tomahawk man~ of criticism, lyric poet and bereaved lover, Poe and his often tragic life and fascinating works have captivated generations of readers. In this class journey into a Gothic world of the macabre, the strange and the terrifying in his short stories and poetry.
