Steinbeck-Nobel prize winner and one of the greats of American Literature-although many of his stories are centered around Monterey, there is a universality in his love of the soil, his championing of the common man, and his identifying with, and defense of, the underdog. We will read short stories from The Long Valley. The first week we will read The White Qual and The Snake with subsequent readings to be determined.
