This course will explore the musical legacy of Frederick the Great, flute-playing king of Prussia. Participants will have a chance to learn about the complex relationship between Frederick the Great and his father, who discouraged his musical pursuits, and Joachim Quantz, who encouraged them. Participants will also have the chance to listen to both live and recorded performances of some of the most famous compositions written by this musical monarch.
