From 1945 until 1990, when the Soviet Union was dissolved, nuclear weapons were never used. During this period there were the frequent confrontations between the East and West and their aligned states when they might have been used. This course will explore the main confrontations to understand why nuclear weapons were not used during the, although in some cases their used had been proposed. We will also explore the circumstances when they were almost used.
