Since 1953, the Korean peninsula has been a tale of two governments. A Stalinist, isolationist regime in the North with a paranoid political dictatorship that has relentlessly pursued development of tactical and strategic nuclear weapons. By contrast, South Korea, under long-term protection of US, has become one of most prosperous capitalist nations in world. The United States nearly went to war with North Korea in Dec. 2017. Although we stepped back from the brink, North Korea is once again carrying out aggressive actions. This presentation will look at how North Korea got to this point and what it means for the United States.
