This course is the fourth course in a planned series of six courses. During 1944 the Allies advanced against the Axis on six fronts (Western and Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, China, the Southwest Pacific and the Central Pacific). Any examination of World War II requires study of the critical battles that were often occurring about the same time in several of the theaters. We will draw on scholarly analysis of the strategic options and objectives behind the battles and their overall significance. The course draws upon lectures from several of the Great Courses, along with publicly available videos from the time and subsequent analyses.
