The Second World War had many heroes. Some such as Winston Churchill are very well known, others not so much. This single session will look at some of those others, people who are not so well known themselves, but had a significant impact. An impact especially relating to Winston Churchill’s first turn as prime minister. We will use 2 lectures from an excellent new Great Courses series titled “Unsung Heroes of World War II: Europe” presented by Professor Lynne Olson. Lecture 1 focuses on the people and politics that allowed Churchill to come to power. Lecture 2 details the American ambassador who was essential to the crucial alliance between Britain and the USA.
