Generating, transporting storing and securing of information are central to every aspect of our daily lives in the 21st Century. This course is the first in a series of courses about the theoretical underpinnings of these processes. It is based in part on lectures from one of The Great Courses by Professor Benjamin Schumacher: The Science of Information: From Language to Black Holes. In this course we will focus on: 1) the initial development of information theory; 2) its basic concepts; and 3) the theories that establish the requirements and limitations associated with transporting, storing and securing our information.
