On 11 May 330 AD the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great renamed the old city of Byzantium in his honor and Constantinople became the capitol of an empire that would exist for more than eleven centuries. This class will tell the story of this amazing empire from its beginnings until collapse in 1453. We will also explore the history of events of this great civilization that has been often referred to as the second Roman Empire.
