Effective Letters to the Editor do not just materialize out of thin air. The topic must be clearly identified, ditto the reason for writing. Effective letters provide good editorial topics and strong news leads. Grammatically correct letters will be printed first, especially if Who, What, Why, When, Where and How are clearly presented. Remember supporting details and that finger-pointing and prejudicial information will be ignored. Learn the tricks of the trade. With luck we will have a retired newspaper writer and current editorial page editor as guests.
