In this course we will examine how most of us travel, nearly all the time, in automobiles. We will examine how cars function, now and in the immediate future. We will look at how highway engineers design roads so we can travel efficiently and safety and how traffic engineers plan and operate road networks so we will encounter few delays. We will look at how new intelligent traffic adaptive systems will greatly enhance travel. Finally, we will examine how bridges and tunnels are constructed, and why tunneling construction technology is likely to change the nature of our metropolitan areas. Much of the material in this course will be drawn lectures by Professor Stephen Ressler in The Great Courses.
