This second course, in a series of three courses, explores ancient Egyptian, Grecian, Roman, Chinese and Medieval structures and the engineering principles upon which they were empirically based. This course is based on lectures from two of The Great Courses, Understanding the World’s Greatest Structures: Science and Innovation from Antiquity to Modernity and Understanding Greek and Roman Technology: From Catapult to the Pantheon, both by West Point Professor Stephen Ressler. In addition one PBS Nova program with be viewed. There will be time for discussion of the engineering principles and methods explained in the lectures.
