This course will explore the initial development of the court, its important early decisions, including those that led to the Civil War. Finally, it will review the decisions following Reconstruction that led to segregation. It is based in part on lectures from The Great Courses, The History of the Supreme Court by Professor of Law Peter Irons of the University of California, San Diego.
