In the past it was assumed that changes in language, customs and surviving artifacts were evidence of invasions from Northern Germany and the Low Countries. Recent archaeology has not revealed any evidence for such an invasion. Instead genetic testing indicates that the native British people adopted the latest continental cultural and linguistic practices. This course is the eighth in a series of courses about how archaeology and genetics now provide our best understanding of Ancient Britain Before the Middle Ages, a time when there is very little reliable documentation.
