The ocean is a source of wonder, delight, sustenance, economic benefit, and awe in the face of its overwhelming mystery and power. All life started in the ocean and for several billion years was the only place where life existed and evolved. This course deals with the biological aspects of the science of oceanography. A companion course deals with life in the ocean. Both courses are based in part on one of The Great Courses: Oceanography: Exploring Earth's Final Wilderness, by Professor Harold J. Tobin at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
