### American Music: A Nation’s History Through Sound

This course will explore the history of American music. Topics will include Music of the Native Americans, African American Music, Religious Music in Colonial America, Music Education in Early America, Secular Music in Early America, Concert Music and Composers of the 18th Century, Women in American Music, Band Music of the 19th Century, American Opera, Film Music, Country, Europeans in America, Mainstream 20th-Century American Composers, 20th-Century Nationalists, and Experimental Concert Music. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to many recordings of music, as well as watch videos and live demonstrations.
